In our lives most people pass through difficult situations. During difficult situations you should appreciate what you have. In the short story "Marigolds" by Eugenia Collier, I read that Lizabeth was living in a shanty-town during the Great Depression of the 1930's, she was African American so it was harder for her & her family to get through in the middle of the story the mom says "Look, we ain't starving. I git paid every week, & Mrs. Ellis is real nice about giving me things." In this part of the story the mom states that Lizabeth isn't poor because they have food & clothes for winter. This is why you should appreciate what you have.
In the poem "Marigolds" An old womanin a poor naighborhood she plants marigolds in her front yard , only to have brats destroy them. The children act out of thiere fear and miss Lotties wich takes very good care of her plants. Her son john is a kid that always sitts down on the house porch . When the kids intrude her garden mrs lotties calls john for help .when the kids destroy her garden she us sad and depressed.  The kids leave laughing and callingher names as she looks at her flowers .     The reason why people had to go through all that stuff its because they didnt have money to support thier family . People should of sticked together and could of had a better life. When the kids destroy her garden that was a selfish thing to do and that just made the women mad and desided to start a rivalry. When the children hear there dad crying they thought that it was thier fault but it was just because of the poor time there going through .
In the poem "Marigolds" by Eugenia collier talks about a little girls childhood and how her home was back then all dusty and how it would get into their eyes and they would get all watery and it would go get to their throat too. Also and she would get that picture in her head of the marigold and it would give her a feeling of nostalgia when she thinks of it. she was poor and she would always go to her neighbours and see her marigolds and she enjoyed it. Every time she remembers the marigolds she thinks of her childhood.

Many people have difficult situations they have to live through. People have struggles in their
Life like being poor or having bad influences by their friends or something. In my opinion what people should do in difficult situations is that you have to ignore it.
In the story "Marigolds" lizabeth gets influenced by her friends to mess with Miss Lottie but when she sees her dad cry she goes to Miss Latties yard and destroys her garden with the marigolds.
In my opinion she should've never destroyed Miss Latties yard that was to childish of her what I would've done is ignored but I would still be mad.

There are many negative things In this world, like being poor, Or having to go through many things on your own. But, We should  make our lives a little bit more positive by doing things to get the stress out of our minds. The Truth is that we all have to be strong in tough Situations. Even though We cant control the situations that happen around us.
In the story, " Marigolds" by Eugenia Collier, A girl named Lizabeth lived in a poor town, in a time called "the Great Depression" and almost everyone didn't have a job. She had tough problems when she was living her life but she always had ways to keep her mind busy. She says, " The witch was no longer a witch but only a broken old woman who dared to create beauty in the midst of ugliness and sterility". This shows that Miss lottie, (the old woman) lit up the dark room, she was positive because everyone around her in her community were being negative. She is saying that If people are going to continue to be negative all the time , No one will be happy. And if negativity continues, there won't be any happiness around in this beautiful world.

There's a lot of negative things, like being poor, smoking, homelessness, hunger, or having babies at a young age. People are always finding bad things all the time. We should  make our lives better by doing something fun.  Why is it hard to be positive? Maybe its peer pressure or getting bad influences from people, maybe your parents, friends, or living in a bad place. Why do we like negative things, like in the news when they talk about negative outcomes because it bores us to listen good stuff. We should be more positive, like don't hang around with negative people because pretty soon, you be one of them.
In the story, " Marigolds" by Eugenia Collier, lizabeth live in a poor town, in a time call the "the Great Depression" where almost everybody didn't have a job, she had tough problems when she was living but she didn't make it boring too. She says, " The witch was no longer a witch but only a broken old woman who dared to create beauty in the midst of ugliness and sterility". This shows that Miss lottie "old woman" light up the dark room, she was positive because  the town was negative, she tried to help. If people are negative all the time, positivity will be destroy because they only want to hear bad stuff; like water and soda, people like soda more than water but it is bad for you.
