In our lives most people pass through difficult situations. During difficult situations you should appreciate what you have. In the short story "Marigolds" by Eugenia Collier, I read that Lizabeth was living in a shanty-town during the Great Depression of the 1930's, she was African American so it was harder for her & her family to get through in the middle of the story the mom says "Look, we ain't starving. I git paid every week, & Mrs. Ellis is real nice about giving me things." In this part of the story the mom states that Lizabeth isn't poor because they have food & clothes for winter. This is why you should appreciate what you have.
